Abstract
Statement of the Problem: Employees in Kenya’s public sector provide needful services under high emotional demands and limited resources, contributing to mental health challenges and occupational stress.
Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this study was to explore influence of workplace counselling on employee motivation.
Methodology: The study used descriptive research design by incorporating qualitative and quantitative methods. Study population consisted of 350 public servants from six directorates within State Department of Public Service and Human Capital Development, Kenya. Quantitative data was collected through questionnaires from 186 participants using stratified random sampling technique while qualitative data was obtained from 6 purposively sampled key informants. Pearson’s correlation and regression were used in quantitative data analysis while qualitative data was thematically analyzed. The study was grounded on Maslow’s theory and Herzberg’s model.
Findings: Findings established that workplace counselling has statistically significant positive influences on employee motivation.
Conclusion: In conclusion, workplace counseling promotes confidence and well-being. This study recommends the need to ensure access to confidential counseling services by incorporating emotional wellness reviews.
