ASSESSING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN RISK MANAGEMENT AND PERFORMANCE: EVIDENCE FROM PROJECTS AT HIGHER EDUCATION LOANS BOARD IN KENYA
Abstract
Purpose of Study: This study therefore assessed the influence of risk management on performance of projects at higher education loans board in Kenya.
Problem Statement: Despite the existence of numerous sets of principles and methodologies related to project management processes, variety of projects and tools designed to support this domain, the field continues to grapple with a significant number of project failures and serious issues. These problems often arise due to inadequacies in project management processes practices.
Methodology: The study employed a descriptive research design. The target population in this study comprised all the employees of HELB totaling to 400. The study used Taro Yamane simplified formula to arrive at a sample size of 200 respondents. Primary data was obtained through the administering of the questionnaires directly to the employees. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Result: The findings revealed that risk management explained significant proportion of the variation in project performance at the Higher Education Loans Board. The findings showed that risk management (β = 0.478, p = 0.000) was positively and significantly related to project performance.
Recommendation: HELB should adopt a proactive and comprehensive approach to identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks.
