Abstract

Purpose of the Study: This paper explains the relationship between politics and the implementation of public policy, with specific focus on the Nigerian context. It examines how politics influences policy development, legitimization, and implementation outcomes.

Methodology: The study used a qualitative and analytical approach to investigate how political interests influence the bureaucratic process and shape the implementation of public policies in Nigeria.

Findings: The findings reveal that political actors often develop and influence policies to serve partisan or personal interests. This weakens the bureaucratic process, undermines effective implementation, and contributes to poor governance outcomes.

Conclusion: The paper concludes that effective policy implementation in Nigeria requires political will, constant policy review, good public administration, effective political communication, and accountability mechanisms that separate public administrative processes from political interference.
